Communities of Kootenay Lake
Boswell |

The
highway winds through this quiet community, providing dramatic
vistas of towering mountains and sparkling water. There is
access to fine resorts, campgrounds and B&Bs, as well
as art galleries, roadside attractions, and hiking trails.
Slow down for the many deer and wild turkeys.
Boswell has been farmed for over 100 yrs. The early settlers usually came from England or Scotland. There were many homesteads because of the temperate climate fruit growing became the major industry. There were no roads at the time and everything was shipped in by paddle wheeler. With the abundance of fruit and the slow access to the markets the community decided to build a jam factory to process the more perishable fruit, while apples and cherries were shipped to the US and other areas.
As time passed and the road was built, people moved to other areas where different industries flourished. Gone was the paddle wheeler, jam factory and all of the farms. Boswell evolved into a quiet retirement community that stretches along the lake. Due to the nearness of the lake, the mild climate and small population, it has been a long time tourist haven. It is a welcoming place for those who want to get away from the hassle of every day life. With numerous campsites, Bed & Breakfast facilities and famous restaurants, Boswell is a quiet welcoming home for those who want peace and tranquility.
Walk the beaches or wander in the woods, visit the Glass House or see the animals at the Kootenay Lodge. Sit on the beach at Lockhart or Makcie park, have a coffee and home made cinnamon rolls at Destiny Bay Market. There are several places to launch your boat, so come and do some fishing. Come and stay awhile, that's what we did and we're still here!
