Government
As most of the East Shore is comprised of unincorporated villages, we depend upon the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) for the provision of services. It oversees planning & development, including land subdivision & building permits. Waste management is another of its important tasks, as is the provision of drinking water, the management of parks, regional transit, emergency planning and fire services. For more info, see www.rdck.bc.ca, call, fax or write:

Committee to develop a land use plan for the East Shore. That can be viewed

Shore Kootenay Lake Land Use Planning Website.
Our District Representative for Area A, which runs from Sirdar to north of Riondel, is Garry Jackman. Contact him at 250-223-8463 or gjackman@kootenay.com
The village of Riondel is an exception to the rule of having no municipal government, as it was a mining town with a variety of services built by the mining company. Thus it has an elected Commission of Management which oversees the water supply, Community Centre & other common buildings. It is located in the Community Centre at 1511 Eastman Avenue, 250-225-3262, www.riondel.ca.
The Interior Health Authority manages the East Shore Community Health Centre in Crawford Bay, located at 15985 Hwy 3A in Crawford Bay, 250-227-9006; fax 250-227-9017. It is open Monday – Friday with various health professionals; doctors are in attendance on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Roads in Area A are maintained by Yellowhead Road and Bridge (YRB). Their area office is located in Crawford Bay, 16399 Highway 3A, 250-227-9217.
For more road info, check http://www.drivebc.ca/
Another important area organization is the Columbia Basin Trust (www.cbt.org), which supports efforts by the people of the Basin to create a legacy of social, economic, and environmental well-being and to achieve greater self-sufficiency for present and future generations.
