Infrastructure

Area A Wynndel/East Shore Kootenay Lake is part of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK). This 110-kilometer-long area runs up Kootenay Lake's East Shore, and has a year-round population of only about 2000. Our vacation residents increase this to over 4000 in the summer. There are 900 homes occupied year-round and about 745 more that accommodate summer residents.

Emergency Services

Area A presently has two fire departments, one in Wynndel and another in Riondel. A third is planned for Crawford Bay. There are three sets of first responders, Wynndel, Boswell and Riondel, of which Riondel is equipped with a Jaws of Life.

Health Services

Area A falls within the boundaries of two hospital districts, one in the East Kootenays (Cranbrook and Creston) and the other in the West Kootenays (Nelson and Trail). There is a small Health Centre in Crawford Bay with a doctor in attendance two days a week, home health nurses and a physiotherapist.

Schools & Libraries

A new K -12 school is being built in Crawford Bay, and is expected to be ready for January 2009. The community is working to ensure it will have a wing for community events, plus space for a day-care facility. There are two small reading rooms in Area A, one in Crawford Bay and another in Riondel.
The CB Tuesday & Saturday, 12-3 & Thursdays, 7pm-9pm

Post Offices

Boswell and Crawford Bay have full service post offices.

Parks

There are two provincial parks in Area A: Lockhart Creek near Twin Bays, with a beach and campground, and Pilot Point near Kootenay Bay, with an extensive trail system and camping accessible by foot and boat. Several more parks are being planned that will ensure continued public access to the Area's splendid beaches and forest trails. Boswell, Crawford Bay and Riondel also have community parks which host soccer games and celebrations during the year. The Boswell and Crawford Bay parks are maintained and operated by volunteer boards.
